Humanities taught me how to think critically, how to communicate effectively, and how to stay curious about the world. It also taught me how to create a career doing what I love. Some say the Humanities is dying. But the Humanities taught me how to live, and how to work.

For the past 30 years I have applied the skills I learned in college to my job as a nonprofit consultant and executive. Then, in 2020, I launched Soleil Sunwear, a line of chic sun-protective clothing for women. This venture marries my entrepreneurial spirit with my love of French language and culture. Living in France during a year abroad at UofA and later as the communications director for a French business school, infused a French sensibility for "effortless style" that informs and inspires my business today.

In France they say that Americans live to work rather than work to live. Living in a capitalist culture can easily conflate the search for meaning with the search for money. But both are possible if you find work that you love. And I did, thanks to the tools and lessons I learned in the Humanities.
