Dr. Zalia Maïga Touré is national director of Mali’s school food program since September 2011. She reports to the Minister of Education and coordinates various international efforts with UNESCO, UNICEF, OXFAM, the World Food Program, Save the Children and others. Dr. Touré leads a team of twenty staff members that serve Mali’s 1,500 schools across nine regions. While at the University of Arizona, Zalia Touré wrote a dissertation on “Women and Traditions in Contemporary African Francophone Literatures and Cinemas” in the Department of French and Italian with Professor Taoua. She defended her dissertation and obtained her doctoral degree during the spring of 2010.
