When
3:30 to 5 p.m., April 16, 2024

The Embassy of France in Washington DC, in cooperation with America 2026, is pleased to announce an upcoming conference on the French role in the American Revolution at the University of Arizona.

Join us on Tuesday, April 16th from 3:30 - 5:00pm in the Kachina Lounge of the Student Union with guest speaker Dr. Iris de Rode as she talks about Chevalier François-Jean de Chastellux.

Historian Dr. Iris de Rode will share her research, drawing from the private archives of the eminent Chevalier François-Jean de Chastellux. As a Major General in the Expédition Particulière under the command of Comte de Rochambeau, de Chastellux played a crucial role in the American War of Independence. Dr. de Rode's presentation will reveal new perspectives on the preparatory phase of the decisive Battle of Yorktown, based on Chastellux's documents. Furthermore, her research sheds light on the broader scope of the Franco-American alliance, unveiling a rich array of exchanges extending beyond mere military collaboration. Over the course of these 2.5 years of collaboration, these exchanges encompassed a multitude of subjects ranging from intellectual pursuits to scientific endeavors, and from political discourse to trade relations.

The lecture will be in English.
