For the second consecutive year, the Department of French & Italian has received a grant to host the Tournées Film Festival, this year presenting a virtual, weekly series of seven films.
Faculty and graduate students will introduce and lead discussions after each film, providing context and insight into the various selections that showcase the diversity and richness of French cinema. The series runs from Jan. 28 through March 18, most screening at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and all films will include English subtitles. All screenings are free and open to the public. “We are thrilled to invite you to join us, virtually, for one or for all seven screenings at this year’s Tournées Film Festival. Each Thursday evening will be a space to come together over a series of cinematic journeys. Whether a documentary, a romantic comedy, or of another genre entirely, each of these films promises to be a thought-provoking lens through which to look at various aspects of language, of culture, and of their intersections and their tensions,” said Drs. Founded in 1995, the Tournées Film Festival has partnered with more than 700 universities, reaching an audience of more than half a million students and community members all across the United States. The festival reflects the diversity and the richness of French cinema through various genres—fiction, documentary, animation and repertory films— giving participants the opportunity to expand their programming and for audiences to experience French cinema through a wider lens.
