The SLAT Program is central to the University mission in providing a graduate education Ph.D. program that meets designated criteria for excellence and can demonstrate promise for national and international distinction; in possessing faculty who have achieved national and international distinction for teaching, scholarship, and service activities; in providing services which are of particular relevance to regional multilingual settings; and in stimulating and coordinating interdisciplinary activities which are contributing to new knowledge in an emergent field and innovative developments in practical application.
